Angie Sloan is an experienced counsellor known for her warm, empathetic approach. She provides counselling for a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, and has a particular passion for supporting individuals with eating disorders and their carers.

Her therapeutic approach draws on a range of evidence-based therapies, including:

  • Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Family-Based Therapy (FBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Temperament-Based Therapy with Support (TBT-S)

  • Mindfulness practices

Angie’s work is neuroaffirming and inclusive. She warmly welcomes neurodivergent clients and those supporting neurodivergent loved ones.

Angie holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology/Physiology) and a Master of Counselling. She is a member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and is ANZAED credentialled.  

Most recently, Angie worked with Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA), where she played a key role in establishing their national Fill the Gap program. She has provided counselling to carers across Australia and is currently engaged in research on the trajectory of ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder).

With lived experience caring for her own daughter, Angie deeply understands the emotional and practical challenges faced by families. Her counselling sessions for carers offer both compassionate support and practical tools to help them feel confident, competent, and empowered in their role. She assists carers in:

  • Rebuilding connection with their loved one

  • Navigating the refeeding process

  • Supporting emotional regulation

  • Adjusting approaches as children transition into adulthood

  • Maintaining their own identity and wellbeing

  • Prioritising self-care

  • Nurturing other important relationships

 

Support for Individuals with Eating Disorders

Angie provides a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to reflect on the experiences and influences that led to the development of their eating disorder.  Her approach is strength-based, neuroaffirming, and focused on helping clients:

  • Reconnect with their authentic self

  • Build the courage to recover

  • Live a life aligned with their values and purpose

Angie helps clients develop practical tools to navigate distress, shift unhelpful patterns, and foster a more compassionate relationship with food, their body and themselves.
